Forgive me, I speak of one of the annoying presumptions on my time at work, the "team building" game. What a silly pompous ass the controller was, an amateur psychologist promoting corporate pretense of humanity. Bah!
What brought to mind was the lifeboat scenario in the Quiz Book of Tests. One TB involved a team of people who normally didnt work together. We are shipwrecked on an island with some stuff, an iron pot, a piece of plastic, etc. How will we work together to survive? The upshot of this turned out that I was made the team leader, why? I don't know. My assignments put the team to work to survive. There was little disagreement however shallow the participation. Anyway, I suggested collection rainwater from the palms said to be there, and digging in the sand by other growth for springs of water. Others suggested useful things. The controller nixed our team because I had failed to recognize a piece of plastic with the corporate logo as a condensation tool. I preferred to use it as a shovel, as condensation would be unlikely to produce any substantial water. Heh. "My team" chemical technicians, was very loud in voicing their discontent. They said, if we are ever caught on an island, we want AO to be there with us, we will survive.
That vote of confidence was unexpected, in the face of our losing the baseball tickets, and the fact that I avoid camping. Meanwhile, my/our ever-desparate deadlines became more and more short by this foolishness. I am sure that the corporate folks benefited by a tax break than by any false presumption of work place cameraderie. It's a new version of bullying bullshit, go with the corporate logo. Oh that left a bad taste for a while among usually complacent folks. Maybe it was good after all.
