The eagle is the black gravity that consumes awareness because it is within its nature to do so. That is its function, just as it is the function of the sun to govern the weather and the moon to govern the tides. The eagle regulates awareness, and only that awareness which has achieved a sufficient level of cohesion can withstand the force of the eagle’s gravity. Put another way, the eagle is the creator of the illusion, and it is the illusion itself. Only those who can realize that the gravity itself is also illusion will be able to break free of it. Otherwise, those that cannot break free are obliterated. That obliteration is death.
If you are not lucid when consciousness and physicality part ways, the gravity sucks consciousness and awareness up to the eagle’s beak, and there it is devoured, cast asunder, obliterated entirely. It is only if lucidity can be found before the force of that gravity feeds you to the eagle that you will have the opportunity to truly inhabit eternity as the total Wholeness of all previous evolutions.

Jerry... with that said, there are several conversations on this forum about the eagle if you want to use the search function.
My own take on it is exactly what Orlando said above: the eagle is the inexplicable force that consumes awareness if the warrior doesn't have sufficient cohesion to maintain/embrace the totality of him/herself at the time of mortal death.
Personally, I wouldn't equate it with Satan, because modern xtianity has far too many erroneous belief systems that have nothing to do with the original transcripts which eventually became "The Bible." The Nag Hammadhi Library is a good place to look at other writings which have been less defaced over the centuries.
In the original version of the story, Lucifer was simply an angel whom God created to be his equal - not only his right hand man, but his confidant, co-creator, companion. Lucifer fell out of favor when he questioned why God had become a petty tyrant to the humans. In essence, Lucifer was the spokesman for Man, saying, in essence, "Why have you created these sentient beings and made them mortal? And worse, why have you given them the AWARENESS that they are mortal?" Lucifer was outraged FOR Man, and was thrown out of heaven for it. At that point, he was painted as "the enemy of God", when the ugly truth was that he was the enemy of Death.
With that said, it's ALL just myth, of course. No way to know who was around for the Big Bang, or if it's all just random, quantum chaos with a centimeter of chance thrown into the mix just to keep it interesting.
The eagle is, in essence, the dark curtain between here and whatever lies beyond. The double is the energetic vessel capable of already BEING beyond the eagle when the mortal self faces Death, so the sorcerer's trick is to open one's eyes on the other side of the curtain, within the totality of the Double.
